My videos and sculptural work often begin with research into specific power dynamics or marginalization. As an artist based in Amsterdam Noord, I aim to create relatable, relevant, and progressive works that align with my socially concerned and locally activistic endeavors. I actively explore the boundaries of the media I work with, within the context of contemporary art and social design. Often manifesting as site-specific installations with props and garments, my work mostly establishes fictional stories, personalities, communities, and situations that address the social conditions of my surroundings by approaching them from a deviant angle. This is evident in works like Noordside, a provocative ‘hood’ video on gentrification in Amsterdam Noord that references the perspective of colonists arriving by boat to an indigenous people’s land, or Met Blanje Bewapend (Armed With White), which features a replica of a Dutch police outfit paired with a machete designed to match its style. Convinced by the idea that "Everyone is an artist (if they want to be)," I create my work influenced by and in collaboration with a variety of artists, both from within and outside the art world. I dedicate myself to researching the layers and dynamics of art in our society, and how society, in turn, influences art.
